Centered on Tang poetry culture, the event showcased the millennium-old capital's profound heritage and modern vitality through city presentations, cultural sharing, interactive experiences and industrial cooperation sessions. It also built a new bridge for deeper exchanges and people-to-people connectivity between Xi'an, Hong Kong and Macao.

As an important birthplace of Chinese civilization, Xi'an boasts an urban history of more than 3,100 years and served as an imperial capital for over 1,100 years. In 2025, the city launched a three-year initiative to build the cultural brand of the "capital of Tang poetry," advancing the in-depth integration of Tang poetry with urban life and cultural tourism development.

From interactive poetry challenges on the Grand Tang Mall to the immersive digital presentation of "poems at every step" at the park of the relics of the Tang Chang'an City wall, Tang poetry has become an integral part of Xi'an's urban fabric. Visitors can trace the original scenes of poetic creation amid city streets and heritage sites, experiencing cultural echoes spanning more than a thousand years.

On September 2, the themed event Xi'an & Hong Kong kicked off at Central, Hong Kong. Wu Jiang, a member of the standing committee of the CPC Xi'an Municipal Committee and director of the publicity department of the CPC Xi'an Municipal Committee, said during the promotion that Xi'an and Hong Kong share intertwined cultural roots and promising prospects for business cooperation.

As Xi'an accelerates its development into a globally influential "capital of Tang poetry," Xi'an looks forward to leveraging Hong Kong's international platform to promote Tang poetry IP, intangible cultural heritage and Silk Road stories to the world, Wu said.

The event featured wonderful performances by young Xi'an artists, including traditional Qinqiang opera, classical poetry art song, and crossover creation.

Blending authentic Qinqiang chanting, Tang poetry recitation and Western opera elements, the shows brought the atmosphere to its climax. Complementary onsite activities included Xi'an cultural photography exhibitions, Fu tea art demonstrations, ICH cultural and creative displays, and custom stamp-collecting experiences, vividly presenting the unique charm of Xi'an's time-honored culture.

To sustain long-term cultural exchanges, dedicated "Xi'an culture zones" have been set up at renowned local bookstores, including the Sanlian Bookstore flagship store in Central and the Commercial Press Tsim Sha Tsui Book Centre.

The zones showcase over 100 books themed around Xi'an culture, alongside distinctive cultural and creative products such as the Terracotta army cartoon series, allowing Hong Kong residents to experience the classical charm and creative vitality of ancient Chang'an culture up close.

On September 3, the event Qinqiang melodies and poetic rhymes tour in Macao was held at the Macau University of Science and Technology. Professor Qi Aiyun, a famous Qinqiang opera artist, delivered lectures and live demonstrations, guiding teachers and students to appreciate the elegance of traditional Chinese opera.

Immersive interactive sessions - including Qinqiang performances, opera facial makeup painting, Tang poetry lacquer fan craftsmanship and calligraphy copying - enabled Macao youth to experience the beauty of intangible cultural heritage through viewing, creation, collection and photography.

Jointly hosted by the brand work office of Xinhua News Agency, the publicity department of CPC Xi'an Municipal Committee, Joint Publishing (Hong Kong) Group, and Macau Lotus TV, the promotion week is part of Xinhua's Global Tour of China's Brands campaign and seeks to elevate Xi'an's international cultural profile, enabling the timeless stories of the ancient capital to shine on the global stage.
